Players do not leave a live game because it asked them to spend money. They leave because it never stopped asking. LiveOps fatigue is one of the most avoidable causes of churn in hybrid-casual and mid-core mobile games, and it comes almost entirely from cadence and segmentation decisions, not from the offers themselves.
This is how we design event calendars and offer logic for titles that need to run LiveOps for years, not weeks.
A single well-timed event can lift retention and revenue meaningfully. The same event running back to back, indefinitely, trains players to tune it out entirely, and the metrics usually still look fine right up until they do not. Fatigue is a lagging indicator, which is exactly why it is dangerous – by the time it shows up in the retention curve, the players most affected by it have often already churned.
There is no universal number, but there is a reliable signal: track event participation rate over successive runs of the same event type, not just overall event revenue. A declining participation rate across repeat runs is the earliest and clearest warning sign of fatigue, and it shows up well before revenue does. Building in cooldown periods between repeats of the same event type, and rotating between two or three distinct event formats, keeps the calendar feeling alive instead of routine.
A blanket discount to the entire player base trains your highest-value players to wait for the next sale instead of converting at full price. Segmented offers, tuned to where a player actually is in their spending and engagement history, convert better and protect the value of full-price purchases for players who would have paid anyway.

-> Whales and high-value spenders get access and pacing, not just discounts – early access to content often outperforms a percentage off.

Revenue per event tells you what happened. Participation rate, repeat-run decay, and session length during the event window tell you why, and they tell you early enough to adjust the next event before the pattern repeats. A LiveOps calendar that only tracks revenue will always be reacting one event too late.
